Dog Friendly North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire has many dog-friendly beaches, stunning historic sites, amazing walks and lots of pubs and cafés fit for humans and your dogs. We have stated where dogs are welcome on our Eating Out, Attractions and Castles, Abbeys and Stately Homes pages to help you plan, but many other destinations are dog friendly too.

Beaches For Dogs

Popular beaches such as Skinningrove, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay offer year round access for your four legged friend. Some beaches do have access restrictions during the summertime: Saltburn, Whitby and Sandsend don’t allow dogs on certain areas of the beach so please look out for the signs before letting loose. If unrestricted runarounds are what you’re after, opt for a winter visit as many beaches allow dogs off the lead.

Moorland dog walks

North York Moors National Park have routes avoiding moorland with sensitive wildlife, and have also chosen walks with no stiles and where the chances of meeting livestock are low.
1. Newtondale – a great forest walk
2. Clay Bank and Greenhow Plantation – trees, tracks and views
3. May Beck and Falling Foss – wonderful woodland waterfall
4. Staithes and Port Mulgrave – along the Heritage Coast
5. Broxa Forest – into the woods
Or you could exercise your dog more freely within the 55 square miles of Forestry Commission woods, including the forests at Dalby. As well as the public rights of way, there are many other paths where your dog is welcome. Take a look at our walks where we take our doggos.
