Application Success!
We are thrilled to announce that we have been accepted onto three of the North York Moors National Park ‘friendly schemes’. They are Dark Skies Friendly, Nature Friendly and Walking Friendly. To gain this accreditation we have had to meet or exceed a set of requirements based on facilities, services and information set by the North York Moors National Park, all to enhance your stay and experience here at The Stables.
So we now have many new additions and ‘extras’ here such as deckchairs and cosy throws for you while you stargaze or bird watch; binoculars, star maps, nature spotting books and guides; laminated walking routes and maps. These can all be used in our garden or out and about at nearby locations.
Our location and setting are ideal to capture the stunning dark skies we experience, with no neighbouring bright lights that you get in the towns and cities. We can provide information on the ideal apps to use both in real time and prior to your stay. Take a look at our page for tips on planning your dark sky holiday.
Oswaldkirk, located in the Howardian Hills AONB and a stone’s throw away from the North York Moors National Park, has abundant opportunities for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. We are lucky enough to have both Barn Owls and Little Owls using our buildings and fences as resting spots. Have a look at the nearby Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Reserves too.
We have updated our website to include links to some of our favourite walks, both long distance and local. You can also take a look at our walks in our highlighted walking stories on Instagram.
